The force field disturbs the delicate balance of the IED sensor, sending a triggering impulse to the detonator. This type of device demonstrates in a teaching setting why approaches should be done remotely, using a robot vehicle with a long arm or boom carrying x-ray equipment, manipulator claw, or a disruptor.
